Tarla Mediterranean Grill

Tarla Mediterranean Grill Review

Celebrating his Greek roots, hip chef Michael Benjamin Powell challenges the Napa Valley's notoriously Italo-centric diners to venture deeper into the Mediterranean. You might be tempted to build a meal by combining such traditional mezes (tapas) as stuffed grape leaves with fresh tzatziki (a thick yogurt sauce with cucumber, dill, and mint) and spanakopita (phyllo dough stuffed with spinach and feta cheese) with contemporary ones like the roasted bone marrow paired with a lemon-zesty gremolata sauce and served on grilled ciabatta bread. With his entrées, Powell proves himself equally comfortable updating moussaka and other Greek and Turkish standbys or going fancifully modern, as he does with beef short ribs, braising them with a pomegranate-wine sauce and accompanying them with pumpkin-sage risotto, pickled sweet peppers, and fried shallot petals. Locals have really bonded with this place.
