Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park

Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park Review

For a break from the winery whirlwind, slip north of St. Helena to this park whose water-powered mill was built in 1846 and partially restored in 1925. A short trail from the parking lot leads through the woods to the mill and granary, where exhibits open just on weekends explain the milling process and docents sometimes offer fascinating milling demonstrations. A trail leads from the park to Bothe–Napa Valley State Park, where you can pick up a number of hiking trails or linger for a picnic.
