Fodor's Review

Most people who have heard of Domaine Charbay know about its flavored vodkas, infused with such ingredients as blood oranges, Meyer lemons, and green tea, but there's much more going on at this rustic property uphill from St. Helena. On the casual, one-hour tour, you're likely to meet one or more members of the Karakasevic family, who have been in the distilling business for 13 generations. Their passions beyond vodka include crafting small batches of rum, whiskey, tequila,

and pastis. Though most of the distilling is actually done in Mendocino County, on the tour here you'll learn the basics of distillation. Domaine Charbray makes some wines and ports, as well as excellent, not-too-sweet aperitifs, and its brandy has also been highly rated. By law, tastings of distilled spirits are not permitted, but the presentation concludes with a wine tasting.
