St. Francis Winery Review
Nestled at the foot of Mt. Hood, this winery occupies one of the most scenic locations in Sonoma. With its red-tile roof and dramatic bell tower, the visitor center, a marvelous evocation of the California Mission style, completes the pastoral picture. The charm of the surroundings is matched by the wines, most of them red, including rich, earthy Zinfandels from both the Russian River and Sonoma valleys. Executive chef David Bush, formerly of the Girl and the Fig, creates five-to-seven-course food-and-wine pairings—cassoulet with Merlot, for example—that are an excellent value at $42. They're offered from Thursday through Monday (reservations recommended), but $25 cheese-and-charcuterie pairings are available daily. Tours costing $30 explore the winery and barrel room and end with reserve-wine tastings.
