Charles Krug Winery Review

The first winery founded in the Napa Valley opened in 1861 when Count Agoston Haraszthy lent Charles Krug a small cider press; today the family of Peter Mondavi (Robert's brother) runs the operation. The winery is best known for its lush red Bordeaux blends, but its Zinfandel is also good. Restoration of the valley's oldest winery building (1872) is scheduled for completion by late 2013. Several tasting lounges will be unveiled, along with a place to buy food and beverages to enjoy in the nearby picnic area, which has views of Mount St. Helena.

    Thoroughly enjoyed it--

With the construction project under way, there's not as much to do on property, but the staff was friendly and informative--Pam took us through a tasting complete with comparisons, and for we newbies that was great! I had a great conversation with Ralph when I was in the gift shop, and boy does he know some stuff!! I had no idea how many variables go into the flavors /smoothness /qualities of wine, simply at the vineyard stage. Overall, well worth my time.
