Fodor's Review

Carmel-by-the-Sea's greatest attraction is its rugged coastline, with pine and cypress forests and countless inlets. Carmel Beach, an easy walk from downtown shops, has sparkling white sands and magnificent sunsets. Dogs are allowed to romp off-leash here. Amenities: parking (no fee); toilets. Best For: sunset; surfing; walking.

Carmel Beach Review

What makes Carmel Beach so charming? Yeah, I know, it's gorgeous setting - a small bay hugged by Pebble Beach on one arm and a neighborhood bursting with ocean views on the other, sunsets over the Pacific, etc. But really, it's the dogs. Lots and lots of dogs, chasing balls, chasing the surf, chasing each other. All walked by owners who clean up after them, all happy, friendly and oh, so much fun to watch. Every year for 18 years, we make our

annual trip to Carmel and the first thing I do each time we arrive is walk down to the beach. Delightful.
