Exotic Mediterranean flavors with an Afghan twist take center stage in this artsy, stylish space with soaring ceilings across from Cooper Square. The chef uses authentic herbs and spices and fresh, healthy ingredients sourced from local purveyors. Traditional dishes range from Moroccan beet salad and grilled chicken flatbread to pomegranate eggplant and maush-awa soup with lentils, beans, and lamb, topped with yogurt. The menus also include housemade pastas and numerous vegetarian options; fresh naan and delectable chutnies and dips accompany every meal. Evenings are especially lively, when locals come to relax over wine and soft jazz at the blue-concrete bar, the heated patio with twinkly lights, or at a communal table near the stainless-steel open kitchen.
