Quail Lodge & Golf Club Review

A sprawling collection of California ranch-style buildings on 850 acres of lush meadows, fairways, and lakes, Quail Lodge offers luxury rooms and outdoor activities at surprisingly affordable rates. It began as the Carmel Valley Country Club—a hangout for Frank Sinatra, among others—and in 1964 became a semiprivate golf club and resort. New owners spent $28 million to update all rooms and public spaces. The "new" Quail Lodge opened in spring 2013 as a casual, family-friendy enclave with swimming pools, fire pits, a bocce court, a 9-hole putting green, nature trails, a game center, and conference rooms for business presentations, family movie nights, and special events. Rooms are decorated in Carmel Valley style, with natural fabrics, wooden furnishings, and Spanish accents. All rooms have decks or patios, plasma TVs, and spacious bathrooms with marble baths, deep soaking tubs, and separate showers. Most suites and some guest rooms have fireplaces. Breakfast (included) is served by the fireplace in the lobby building.
