Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve

Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve Review

In the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, 1,400 acres of tidal flats and salt marshes form a complex environment that supports some 300 species of birds. A walk along the meandering waterways and wetlands can reveal hawks, white-tailed kites, owls, herons, and egrets. Also living or visiting here are sea otters, sharks, rays, and many other animals. On weekends, guided walks from the visitor center to the heron rookery begin at 10 and 1.
