La Playa Hotel Review

A historic complex of lush gardens and Mediterranean-style buildings, La Playa reopened in 2012 after a $3.5 million renovation. Norwegian artist Christopher Jorgensen built this property's original structure in 1905 for his bride, a member of the Ghirardelli-chocolate clan. The remodel transformed the interiors into a light and airy Carmel Bay beach cottage style, while retaining the hotel's historic Mediterranean charm and lush gardens. Rooms are small but comfortable; some have views of gardens or the ocean. Rates include a daily champagne brunch.

    Loved La Playa!

We stayed here for my birthday, I chose the hotel because I love the older Historic Hotels. La Playa was wonderful, I enjoyed the meticulously groomed gardens and flowers everywhere, the nice pool area for lounging and sunning and a great breakfast at the hotel in their restaurant called the Terrace Grill.
Our room was upstairs and had view of the gardens and ocean, the room was very small but nicely appointed and I like the colors of the seafoam green and coral. We found the front desk to be very helpful, we booked under the Wine Country package that included a bottle of Morgan Pinot Noir that was sent to our room upon arrival with a colorful vase of flowers.
Nice location also, walking distance to the beach and shops. We loved our stay here and will return.
