Monterey State Historic Park

Fodor's Review:

You can glimpse Monterey's early history in the well-preserved adobe buildings scattered along several city blocks. Far from being a hermetic period museum, the park facilities are an integral part of the day-to-day business life of the town—within some of the buildings are a store, a theater, and government offices. At some of the historic houses, the gardens (open daily 10 to 4) are worthy sights themselves. Departing from the Pacific House Museum, guided 45-minute walking tours of Old Monterey take place Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30 AM.
