Monterey State Historic Park

Monterey State Historic Park Review

You can glimpse Monterey's early history in the well-preserved adobe buildings scattered along several city blocks. Far from being a hermetic period museum, the park facilities are an integral part of the day-to-day business life of the town—within some of the buildings are a store, a theater, and government offices. At some of the historic houses, the gardens (open daily 10 to 5 in summer, 10 to 4 rest of the year) are worthy sights themselves. At this writing, many buildings are closed and tours on hiatus due to state park budget cuts. Visit the Web site for up-to-date information.
