The main appeal of this aging motel perched on a waterfront bluff is its location: every room has an ocean view, and the boardwalk is just down the street. Blond-wood furniture and floral fabrics create a vaguely country look; some rooms have private hot tubs or fireplaces. A few studios and suites include kitchenettes. Pros: Beach is steps away, friendly staff, tidy landscaping. Cons: Tight parking lot, fronts a busy road, can be noisy.

Loved this motel. We stayed one night in the exec. suite, which should be called a beach shack, a cozy one-bedroom cottage with your own parking space, and your own "backyard" complete with your own personal outdoor spa and patio table and furniture, overlooking the beautiful bay. Dining and kitchen area, and a very short walk to the pier. The next night we had a regular room, but again, spacious and quaint. Not the lap of luxury, but after all, you are in Santa Cruz, a beach town. The little continental breakfasts are great as well.
