University of California at Santa Cruz

University of California at Santa Cruz Review

The 2,000-acre UC Santa Cruz campus nestles in the forested hills above town. Its sylvan setting, sweeping ocean vistas, and redwood architecture make the university worth a visit. Wander about on your own (maps available at the office of admissions) or on a guided tour (reservations required). Either way, the free campus shuttles can help you get around.

UCSC Arboretum. Half a mile beyond the main campus entrance, the arboretum contains a stellar collection of gardens arranged by geography. A walking path leads through areas dedicated to the plants of California, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. 1156 High St., 95064. 831/427–2998. arboretum.ucsc.edu. $5. Daily 9–5, guided tours by appointment.
