Fodor's Review

Casual yet stylish and always packed, this seafood restaurant is removed from the hubbub of the wharf. If the dining room is full, you can wait at the bar and savor deliciously plump oysters on the half shell. The bartenders and waitstaff will gladly advise you on the perfect wine to go with your poached, blackened, or oak-grilled seafood.

Ideal Jaunt for Suckers

This has got to be the biggest rip-off in Monterrey County! Not only is the price for suckers reasoning that "high-price gotta be good stuff," but as so many recent reviewers caution, diarrhea is a now staple of this has-been jaunt. Waiter "Tony" serves as the Don Juan for the desperado nymphs, and insecure males -- while obviously gloating at these "loser" customers. Let him rattle off the "House Specials"

and then witness how these specials see a 25% markup from the menu when the bill arrives. ditto the lame deserts that have to be viewed as esoteric wonders... This joint will thrive as long as a sucker is born every minute

Rotten Food and Service

I became ill after I was served a rotten mussel in the cioppino. After I informed the staff they offered to replace the mussel. They left the meal in front of us even after we complained and got the check. The bill still had the Cioppino on it and when I complained they offered to take the price of one mussel off the bill! The worst restaurant experience of my life.

Monterey's Fish House Review

Pretty bland food. Odd combinations and oversized portions

Too much butter, fish not seasoned enough

The food gets a 3 rating from me based on the good appetizer (mussels in marinara sauce) and the carrot cake. The entree had a lot left to be desired. The oak grilled mahi-mahi was bland. The vegetable were drenched in butter and the pasta was overcooked with gloppy alla vodka sauce. The service on the otherhand was terrific and they were very knowledgable about wine.
