Fodor's Review

The city's cultures come together in one of the oldest parks, named in honor of World War I General John J. Pershing. Opened in 1866, the park was renovated in the 1990s by architect Ricardo Legorreta and landscape architect Laurie Olin with colorful walls, fountains, and towers. Although the massive block-and-sphere architecture looks somewhat dated, Pershing remains an icon of Downtown L.A. Nearby office workers utilize the area for a stroll or lunch break. From mid-November

to mid-January, the place attracts ice skaters to an outdoor rink.
