Fodor's Review

Film enthusiasts will enjoy the roster of movies put on by the American Cinemathèque, with classic and independent films screening on a constantly rotating schedule at its two theaters: the Aero Theatre and the Egyptian Theatre. Expect everything from suspensful Hitchcock to anime from Hayao Miyazaki, along with occasional question-and-answer sessions with directors and actors following film screenings. The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood has the distinction of hosting the first-ever movie premiere, back when it opened in 1922, and its Egyptian-themed courtyard and columns have been lovingly restored to preserve its history. The Aero Theatre is in Santa Monica and first opened in 1940.

Aero Theatre. This Santa Monica–based American Cinematheque theater first opened in 1940 and shows movies on a big screen. 1328 Montana Ave., Santa Monica. 323/466–3456.
