Film enthusiasts will enjoy the roster of movies put on by the American Cinemathèque, with classic and independent films screening at two theaters, the Aero and the Egyptian. Expect everything from Hitchcock thrillers to anime from Hayao Miyazaki, along with occasional question-and-answer sessions with directors and actors following film screenings. The Egyptian Theatre, in Hollywood, has the distinction of hosting the first-ever movie premiere, back in 1922 when it opened. Its Egyptian-theme courtyard and columns have been restored to preserve its history. The Aero Theatre, in Santa Monica, opened in 1940.
