Film enthusiasts will enjoy the roster of movies put on by the American Cinemathèque, with classic and independent films screening on a constantly rotating schedule at its two theaters: the Aero Theatre and the Egyptian Theatre. Expect everything from suspensful Hitchcock to anime from Hayao Miyazaki, along with occasional question-and-answer sessions with directors and actors following film screenings. The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood has the distinction of hosting
the first-ever movie premiere, back when it opened in 1922, and its Egyptian-themed courtyard and columns have been lovingly restored to preserve its history. The Aero Theatre is in Santa Monica and first opened in 1940.
