The London West Hollywood Review

Just off the Sunset Strip, cosmopolitan and chic in design, the London WeHo is a remake of 1984-built Bel Age. The large suites and rooftop pool with city-wide views remain, but all else has been spiffed and brightened up with luxury textures like ultrasuede covered hallway walls, framed mirrors throughout, and glam touches like gold lame leather couches. A visual treat inside and out, though some of the custom-made pieces from British designer David Collins, like the marble-topped desk and glass-walled showers, are sharp-edged and might prove perilous. Rooftops are masked with gardens and topiary—British whimsy includes a bulldog as hotel mascot. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his team oversee dining at the restaurant and bar, cafe, and rooftop.

    Almost Perfect

Spent a fantastic 4 nights at "the London" Great location for our "LA Vacation" that we've been talking about , but never doing, for years. My wife and I have a lot of ties to the area, so we're always staying with family on the outskirts of LA. This time we stayed in the heart of the city, and finally saw a lot of LA we're always driving by on the freeways. Our kids are 14 and 11, and they had a ball. "The London" is centrally located so it was relatively easy drives for us to see The Getty Villa Gardens, Rodeo Drive, The Grove, Farmers Market, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, La Brea Tar Pits, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Strip, Restaurant Row. We did all that and more. "The London" accommodations, staff, grounds, were superb. Every evening we spent at the pool even though it was chilly(spring break '09). The pool area feels like your sitting on top of LA. The pool staff did there best to see to our comforts, portable heat, food or nice large drink. Our only complaints had to do with the food. If I'm on vacation, I plan on spending extra for an enjoyable meal, but you really feel taken when you order specialty sandwich's from room srevice ($24 hamburger, $18 BLT) and get what you might expect if you went to Denny's. After our room service and breakfast meals on the first night and morning, we never ordered from the kitchen again, and canceled our dinner reservations at the restaurant when we figured out it's all the same kitchen. We will most definitely stay here again 4 out 5 stars.
