Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust

Fodor's Review:

This museum, dedicated solely to the Holocaust, has struggled to maintain a permanent home and is often confused with the Museum of Tolerance (further west on Wilshire). Now next to the Jewish Federation, it uses its extensive collections of photos and artifacts to evoke European Jewish life in the 20th century. In one chilling moment, you must step through a replica train car that signals the fate of millions of Jews: the concentration camps. The museum also documents resistance movements and the founding of Israel. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in January 2008 for the museum's new permanent home in Pan Pacific Park, with acclaimed architect Hagy Belzberg (Walt Disney Concert Hall interior) signed on for the building's design, which is slated to open in 2010.

  • Cost: Free.
