$, Mexican, West L.A.
Fodor's Review:
This family-owned café serves the subtle cooking of one of Mexico's most respected culinary regions, Oaxaca. Flavors here are intense without being fiery. Try their version of chiles rellenos (bright green chili peppers stuffed with chicken, raisins, and groundnuts); any of the complex moles with chicken, pork, or salmon; or extra-tender stewed goat with toasted avocado leaves. For dessert, there's fried, sliced sweet plantain topped with crème fraîche.
