Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles

Updated 04/14/2014

Fodor's Review

Don't be put off by the name of this casual eatery, which honors a late-night combo popularized in Harlem jazz clubs. Roscoe's is the place for real down-home Southern cooking. Just ask the patrons, who drive from all over L.A. for Roscoe's bargain-price fried chicken, wonderful waffles (which, by the way, turn out to be a great partner for fried chicken), buttery chicken livers, and toothsome grits. Although Roscoe's has the intimate feel of a smoky jazz club,

those musicians hanging out here are just taking five.

Waffles as good as Mom's

We love Roscoe's! Haven't been to the Hollywood location; we go to the one in Pasadena. Atmostphere is nothing, but the food is great! Chicken is good and crispy, not greasy; smothered chicken is great. Greens are good. But the waffles are my reason for going -- they're to die for!

Gotta get your fix...

Once you try Roscoe's, you'll want to go back. There's just no denying that chicken n waffles craving! The chicken really is succulent (as long as you get the dark meat), the skin crisp and tasty. Love the waffles more though, with its sweet, cinammon-y syrup. Finally, if you go when the macncheese is available, try it! A sinful, heart-clogging delight, oozing with richness. You can't leave LA without trying this place once...

An L.A. Institution

Angelenos from all walks of life head to Roscoe's for their perfectly cooked fried chicken served alongside their unique, cinnamon-laced waffles. If you want to avoid the crowds found in the Gower and Pico locations, head for the one on Manchester. This is the place for any homesick Southerner to head!
