El Cholo Review
The first of what's now a small chain, this landmark south of Hollywood has been packing them in since the 1920s. A hand-painted adobe ceiling and an outdoor patio with a fountain create a partylike atmosphere, which the bar's legendary margaritas can only enhance. The fare includes all kinds of Cal–Mex standards, including tacos, chicken enchiladas, carnitas (shredded fried pork), and—from July to October—their famous green-corn tamales.
