Under new ownership and management, the sprawling five-story hotel is midway through an update, with new room decor and much-needed sprucing up. The Olympic-size pool and patio with outdoor bar (summers only) remain, as do the extra wide halls and high-ceilinged rooms. Americana abounds and the in-house coffee shop serves up all the classics with breakfast a notable good value. Pros: close to Ventura Boulevard's plentiful restaurants, free shuttle, and discounted tickets to Universal Hollywood, garden view rooms quietest. Cons: renovations ongoing and possibly intrusive.

we live in the area & when friends visit from out of the country (or relatives) this is a great place to put them; reasonable price, clean, giant Olympic heated pool, self-service laundry room, cheap coffee shop & best of all guests can walk to shops (during the day) or walk to local restaurants SAFELY (at night) or take a 5 min. cab ride to one of the best sushi bars Sushi Katsu-Ya about 1.5 miles east of the Lodge! Be it in-laws, foreign guests or their teenaged sons, everyone we have put here has LOVED the place. A fresh fare supermarket is directly across the street, so they can stock up on snacks/water, parking is free, terrific tourist excursion desk, Avis car rental & decent restaurant... but the black swans on their green (dyed) brook is the piece du resistance! They are about 2 miles from Universal Studios & run a free shuttle for guests.
