Book NowOceana Review
Generous-size suites, soundproofed windows, an open-air courtyard and pool, and ocean proximity add up to a delightful boutique hotel. There's a distinctly SoCal beach vibe: the welcoming residential feel begins in the glass-covered lobby where guests sit down to check-in. A colorful, designer-perfect lounge is for guests only. Business types like the in-room offices with extra-large work spaces and Wi-Fi throughout. Digital gadgets include iPod docking stations rooms and two plasma TVs in some suites.

TTess, from Carmel, CA
Called the hotel, directly, to make our reservation. They had no suites available so we booked a king deluxe ocean view room.
We pulled up to the hotel at 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday and were greeted by a very kind bellman. I went into the hotel and to the front desk. The young gal at the front desk had so much dark and light eye makeup on that I thought it was Halloween...not a professional look at all.
We were escorted to our room and astonished to see that the "ocean view" was only a glimpse from the side windows and not at all ocean front. I was very saddened because my husband and I were looking forward to a romantic get away with ocean front views. We called the front desk and were told that no other rooms were available. No offer of monetary compensation was offered. I asked to speak to the manager. After being on hold for some time, I hung up and called back. I spoke to Greg, the manager on duty, and was told that, indeed, no room other room was available and he was sorry that we didn't get the ocean view room we were promised. No monetary offer was made, nothing! So, I asked for compensation. I received a whopping $50. credit so I asked for free parking, too. He said he'd give that to us.
During our stay, we found the bed to be very comfortable. The large flat screen T.V. was quite nice. The bathroom was tiny and the bathtub was only two feet deep! The vanity was old with lots of chipped paint. The room was clean and comfortable. Noise, though - lots of noise. The air conditioner rattled loudly every time it was on and the room got hot during the night, regardless of the setting. We could hear kids screaming in the pool and we did not overlook the pool. At 8:00 a.m., Sunday, we were awoken by the bed above us banging due to a couple having morning sex. Hey, sex is fine but I don't want to hear the bed. We were then woken up at 9:00 by kids running by our room and a woman loudly singing a song about Jesus. I wanted to ask her to pray for herself because I was ready to give her a piece of my mind!
When we checked out, we were given our bill that showed charges for parking and a "mandatory facility fee" of $15.00. I told the gal that we were not supposed to be charged for parking and that I would not be paying their facility fee. The fee, they say, is charged for use of the work out room, the pool and the Internet. Well, we didn't use any of that so why should we pay? That's like paying for the mini bar when you don't use it. Nickel and diming customers is just plain tacky. She sternly told me the fee was mandatory and I sternly told her that I refuse to pay it. That fee was then credited along with the parking fee.
Would we stay there again? Are you kidding me? No way!
