Book NowShutters on the Beach Review
Set right on the sand, this gray-shingle inn has become synonymous with in-town escapism. Guest rooms have those namesake shutter doors, pillow-top mattresses, and white built-in cabinets filled with art books and curios. Bathrooms are luxe, each with a whirlpool tub, a raft of bath goodies, and a three-nozzle, glass-walled shower. While the hotel's service gets mixed reviews from some readers, the beachfront location and show-house decor make this one of SoCal's most popular luxury hotels.

Very unhelpful staff at the desk on arrival, although the next day they were delightful and informative.
Grease marks on the windows which did get removed quickly.
Bar closes at 10.30???????!!!, but is wonderful when open.
Room was very cramped and small, but great bed.
The last straw was finding a cockroach in the bathroom.
Overal, potentialy a great hotel as far as decor and location, but let down by some staff who think seem to resent that they are working at the hotel and not guests. -

Shutters may be hanging on to its reputation as an "in town" retreat, but we were very disappointed by chronic noise and other disruptions during our stays on several week-ends in July and August of 2007. Expensively appointed rooms and cloyingly stocked bathrooms are of no comfort at 2:30 a.m. when the hotel bar empties -- and the racket of boisterous revelers comes through the flimsy walls and single paned windows of one's very expensive hotel suite.
Worse, your sleeplessness will leave you in no mood for the rumbling of the early morning delivery trucks the next morning.
AWFUL!
My advice: party at Shutters, but save your money for a good night's sleep at a proper hotel elsewhere. -

We celebrated a birthday there and the cake and flowers were excellent, food is great. However, the check-in and front desk personnel is rude (Dora), arrogant and incompetent. I complained to the GM about employees hanging up when one makes reservations at the Pico restaurant, and front desk personnel being quite inconsiderate towards guests. After spending $780 for a room on a daily basis, one would expect experienced front desk clerks who are polite. Food and location are excellent but if one has to encounter rudeness and arrogance from members of the staff, then this is not worth it. Will try a different hotel next time. One would expect one gets what one pays for, but not at this hotel!
