Why We Like It

If you’re looking for an A-list experience with an A-list clientele, then this A-list hotel is right up your A-list alley. Privacy is everything here and secret areas give stars the ability to come and go without being seen if they don’t want to be. The villas are top of the line and all rooms are spacious suites with patios or balconies. The food is great, the bar has one-of-a-kind people-watching and the pools are laid-back. If you want to experience a celebrity lifestyle without the paparazzi, this is the place to do it.

Fodor's Expert Review

Home to A-list celebrities, rock stars and other "privacy-concerned citizens" (rich people), the Marquis is a bastion of secrecy behind its closed off walls. Walking through the tree-lined grounds of this historic complex yields hidden bungalows, secret rooms and quiet corners. Located off the Sunset Strip, this hotel is the perfect getaway for those who want to be in the middle of the action but also away from it at the same time.

Room

This full-suite hotel has 152 rooms that range from standard, pool-side hangouts to two-story secluded villas with private garage entrances. The rooms come equipped with Apple TV and all feature either patios or balconies. Original art lines the walls of each room and Rivolta linens line the beds (considered to be some of the best linens in the world).

Tip For $10,000, you can check into the two-story Presidential Suite, complete with full kitchen, screening room, three spa treatments a day and your own private butler.

Bathroom

Raised sinks and rain showers are typical in the rooms, along with Molten Brown products which are theft-worthy.

Lobby

There isn’t much of a lobby to speak of, but the design of the hotel is understated with a "zen" feel. The hotel attempts to make you feel at home--and succeeds. Off the lobby is Bar 1200 and Morrison Art Gallery, which hosts monthly events.

Pool

There are actually two pools at the Marquis. The main pool area is toward the front of the hotel and is surrounded by standard rooms. The upper-level pool is accessible to all guests and surrounded by villas. Full food and drink menus are available at both and live music events can be found at the upper pool during summer nights.

You Should Know The live music events are open to guests and locals. If you want a more private stay, make sure you request a room away from this area.

Spa

The spa is fully equipped with massage rooms and provides services for skin, hair, nails and more. Guests can also request in-room massages if they don’t feel like leaving their rooms.

Gym

While there’s no fitness center on site, the hotel does provide guests with free passes to Equinox gym, which happens to be right next door (and is one of the nicest gyms in LA).

Dining

Cavatina is the hotel’s signature indoor/outdoor dining space which features Cali/Mediterranean cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel also offers room service 24-hours a day.

Drinking

Bar 1200 is the main hotel bar and has played host to mainstream musical acts over the years, from the Rolling Stones to Kings of Leon. The hotel’s back bar next to Cavatina is more subdued--but usually just as celeb-filled.

Tip Ask the hotel to give you a tour of their professional recording studio. Madonna and Drake have both recorded here--so, hey, you never know who you might see.

Gardens

Everywhere you look there is greenery, lounge space and hidden nooks. The hotel is basically a giant garden.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel sits in a residential pocket that’s not heavily trafficked and provides no metro access. Taxis do come by, but you’re better off hailing an Uber or Lyft. Walking in this area is easy as long as you don’t mind big hills.

Restaurants

As the hotel is just off the Sunset Strip, there are plenty of options for all types of cuisine and price points. For sushi lovers, Sushi Wa Restaurant (5-minute walk) is just down the street. For health-conscious lunchers, there’s Hugo’s Restaurant (10-minute walk).

Bars

There are too many options to list, but there’s Barney’s Beanery (10-minute walk) for sports lovers. There’s Skybar (5-minute drive) for craft cocktails and unbeatable views. And check out Rainbow Bar & Grill (5-minute drive) to hang out around rockers once they’re done playing the Viper Room.
