Fodor's Review

A clubby style infuses the 1929 art deco landmark once known as the Argyle, bringing out as many locals as tourists to this iconic Sunset Strip boutique hotel. The lobby sets the tone with dark wood and marble floors; vintage Hollywood star photos add retro glamour to the Tower Bar, where you can sink into couches and upholstered corners while taking in the dramatic city views. The indoor-outdoor Terrace restaurant is poolside and has an equally impressive vistas. Guest

rooms feature art deco–inspired fixtures and walnut armoires. The spa and elaborate beauty salon add to the resort-in-the-city feel.

A must for Art Deco buffs

My wife and I stayed here over a weekend in May 2004 and loved the place. It's a wonderful building, and for once the room and furnishings (we had an 11th-floor suite) lived up to the hotel website's description. The room was full of striking Deco furniture and had a terrific view over the city (we were looking out towards downtown). The location is also excellent - you're within walking distance of some excellent restaurants (L'Orangerie, Lucques)

and the Sunset Strip. Highly recommended.

Hollywood like it should be.

A neat hotel. Lots of nostalgia. Great staff. Funky neighborhood. Stay here for a real Hollywood experience.
