Avalon

Fodor's Review:

Combining space-age architectural details like large lobby plate-glass windows and terazzo floors with tech-savvy substance make this a comfortably cosmopolitan boutique hotel. Rooms at the three-building property incorporate '50s retro design, with classic pieces from George Nelson and Charles Eames; there are also Frette linens, chenille throws, and a menu of spa treatments that can be ordered in-room. For extended stays, the Avalon also has stylish apartments that come with all hotel services, including twice-daily housekeeping. Weather permitting, things get busy poolside and in the fun private cabanas. Pros: stylish, Beverly Hills location at a reasonable rate, in-house restaurant, blue on blue, earns critical raves. Cons: poolside social scene can be rowdy.
