In the quest to generate some commercial gold, this segment of the waterfront has been developed to complement Long Beach's other harbor attractions. The brightly painted clusters of restaurants, boutiques, and souvenir stores that make up Shoreline Village (Shoreline Dr. and Shoreline Village Rd., 90802. 562/435-2668) cap the area to the east. You can rent surreys, bikes, sailboats, or Jet Skis here; the Pelican Pier Pavilion has a small carousel and arcade games. The Pike at Rainbow Harbor is a stucco-clad collection of uninspired shops and restaurants found in malls across America. Depending on the season and day of the week, Rainbow Harbor is also the place to catch the city's AquaBus water shuttle to the Queen Mary.
