Fenyes Mansion

Fodor's Review:

With its elegant dark wood paneling and floors, curved staircases, and a theatrical stage in the parlor, it's easy to envision how this 1905 mansion along Pasadena's Millionaire's Row once served as gathering place for the city's elite. Most rooms on the ground and second floors are still fitted with original furniture; you can peek into these roped-off spaces, now home to mannequins dressed in period clothing, to get a sense of what life was like a century ago. Docent-led tours are available, which give an extensive history of the home and its owners, many of whom can be seen in the mansion's impressionist paintings. Also be sure to take a moment to visit the adjacent Historical Center Gallery with rotating exhibits dedicated to the art and culture of Pasadena.

  • Cost: Tour $4; museum $5
  • Open: Wed.-Sun. noon-5. Hrs for tour vary. Call ahead.
