True thrill seekers looking for "monster" rides and breathtaking roller coasters come to this anti-Disney amusement park for several of the biggest, fastest, and scariest in the world. The aptly named Scream, for instance, drops you 150 feet and tears through a 128-foot vertical loop. Superman: The Escapeis a 41-story coaster that hurtles you from 0 to 100 mph in less than seven seconds. On Riddler's Revenge, the world's tallest and fastest stand-up roller coaster, you stand for a mile-long 65-mph total panic attack. Batman the Ride puts you on ski lift-style trains suspended from a track above to provide a zero-gravity, nothing-under-your-feet, flying experience as you sail through hairpin turns and vertical loops. In 2008, the Park's popular coaster, X, was transformed reopened as X2, complete with sleeker trains and a one-of-a-kind tunnel and light show. Beloved children's icon Thomas The Tank Engineand his friends entertains kids at Thomas Townor take them to meet their favorite Looney Tunes characters in Bugs Bunny World. Shows, dining, parades younger kids rides and those scream-inducing roller coasters make it a full day on this massive park (be sure to wear your walking shoes and brace yourself for some of the hilly areas).
Weekends are peak times here, so be prepared to stand in line for the more popular rides. (In warm weather, be sure you have sunscreen and water.) Save $20 and pass the long lines upon arrival by purchasing and printing your tickets ahead of time from the Web site. This place is also popular with teenagers so be prepared to pass plenty of loud packs, or just send your own here to have a day away from the parents. If your trip falls during one of L.A.'s heat waves and you need a place to cool down (and don't mind communal pools), you can hop over to its sister theme park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, right next door, and for $16.99 take a slippery cool trip down its massive waterslides. Rumor has it Six Flags is possibly selling and closing the park in the near future to make way for condos and homes in this desirable location—so call ahead.
