Fodor's Review

Whimsy abounds at this stylized seaside escape—just look at the porcelain dogs as lamp bases and Spode china plates mounted on the walls—yet the compact rooms, which all have French balconies, and sexy mirrored walls draw quite the upscale clientele. The mostly marble bathrooms have seated vanities and supremely refreshing aromatherapy products. Glamorous socializing takes place in the pool and cabana area amid all-white armchairs and divans. People-watch at the green-hue

bar and lobby lounge during awards season and you'll likely catch a slew of celebs air kissing in the lively bar. The hotel's attractive restaurant, Whist, presents market-fresh Cal-Med cuisine. Upper-floor, ocean-view rooms are brilliant at sunset.

euro-chic? more like euro-trash

Just came back from a one night stay at the Viceroy - booked it because of the comments found here and was truly disappointed. Way overpriced and trying way too hard to be hip!!! Paid close to $400 for a tiny room overlooking the pool and parking area. The front of the hotel looked like it needed major remodelling. The interiors is dark especially from the elevator to room - one needs a flashlight to find one's room! The whole place felt like a

little hotel wanting to be a major resort. Room was clean but not very well appoinnted from the green/white/silver color scheme to the cheesy white chandelier. The bed was very comfortable though. Sound proofing needs work. Would rather stay at the Travelodge along Ocean Avenue. A couple of good notes - the valets and the front desk people were very polite and professional.

Cool hotel in SM

Cool little hotel on the eastern side of Ocean Blvd. Not oceanfront like Loews, but okay. Tiny rooms. Within walking distance to 3rd Street. Excellent restaurant (Whist). Lots of eye candy in the bar/lobby/restaurant on Friday/Saturday nights.

The place to stay when in LA!

The Viceroy is SUPERB! The decor is fabulous(without trying too hard), the service was wonderful and quite friendly and our ocean view room was perfect! My only tip -- if you want to catch some rays by the pool, plan on being there during prime tanning hours. After 4 most of the pool area is in the shade.
