Bottega Louie Review

This former Brooks Brother's suit store was reincarnated into a lively Italian restaurant and gourmet market in 2008 and quickly crowned downtown's new culinary darling. Vast open space, stark white walls and long windows that stretch from floor to ceiling give it a grand and majestic appeal. An army of stylish servers weave in-and-out of the crowds carrying bowls of pasta, trays of bubbly Prosecco and thin-crust pizzas. Pick and choose from a bevy of salads, pastas, pizzas and entrees that range from shrimp scampi to a hearty New York strip steak. Or simply order from its small plates menu with favorites: asparagus with fried egg, burrata and roasted vine tomatoes, tomato bruschetta, and fried calamari. Don't let the crowd of people waiting for a table deter you, order a cocktail from the bar, peruse the gourmet patisserie, and nibble on a brightly colored macaroon.

    Loud and pretty

The loud is the restaurant and the pretty is the clientele, especially on a Friday if the Lakers are playing. I wanted to hate this place since it looks so pretentious. Alas, the first time I came I got a simple pepperoni pizza and it was great. Warning. This is NOT a first date place because you have to yell during peak times. But early Sunday brunch is nice. We'll if Coco Laurent just opened across the street eats into their business.

    Classy Italian

Exceptional ingredient quality and presentation was well done. Wood oven pizza was good as an appetizer. Very strange room - huge ceilings and large paintings - they need to downsize to make it more intimate and less airport hangerish. Waiters seemed bored with the lack of customers on a week day night.
