A burger-insider haunt since 1947, this unassuming joint with a horseshoe-shaped counter—no tables here—turns out one heck of a good burger topped with Tillamook cheddar, plus a hickory burger with barbecue sauce. You'll also find great fries and, of course, an apple pie indulgent enough to christen the restaurant (although many regulars argue that the banana cream deserves the honor). Be prepared to wait, but the veteran countermen turn the stools at a quick pace.

Just because I've been coming here for 40 years and nothing changes, not even the wait staff, doesn't mean it gets old or tired or that I don't have to wait with everyone else along the wall for a vacant seat. Once you sit down on the bar stool style chairs and put you hands on the countertop, you are mentally time travel back to the 50's and 60's as you watch your burger being cooked in the center of the horseshoe. A plate of perfect fries are thrown on a cardboard plate in front of you; followed by the most delicious hickory burger in the City of Los Angeles. This is the real deal.

Great food and atmosphere! Sodas served in those old fashioned paper cones in a metal base! Counter servers wear soda-jerk hats! Very nostalgic, and a great place to see celebrities....last week: Rob Reiner and the actor who plays "Avon" in "The Wire". Don't miss the pies!
