Young, intense David Myers—one of the city's most exciting and unpredictable chefs—shoots the works here. A slab of polished granite topped with an exquisite orchid arrangement anchors the sleek dining room. The prix-fixe tasting menus are a good choice here, since they allow you to try several of Myers's unique dishes. An occasional item is too precious, but the successful dishes win out. Highlights might include seared foie gras paired with beets, kumquats and red wine vinegar ice cream, corn soup with a corn-bacon beignet, Scottish salmon in carrot-cumin puree, and a lemon verbena cheesecake with a moscato granita.

We've been all over LA, and this one seems to fly under the radar. We've had several great meals (we always get the tasting menu), but one did have one bad night where the food was off, the kitchen slow (maybe even a fight?), and didn't get out until midnight. But hey, that's a normal hour for dinner in the rest of the world!
