Young, intense David Myers—one of the city's most exciting and unpredictable chefs—dazzles his fashionable followers here. A slab of polished granite topped with an exquisite orchid arrangement anchors the sleek dining room. If you're willing to spend the money, the prix-fixe tasting menus ($95 for six courses; $145 for nine) are the way to go, since they allow you to try many of Myers's distinctive dishes. An occasional item is too precious, but the successful dishes win out. Highlights might include seared foie gras paired with kumquat puree and licorice root ice cream, duck with chestnut agnolotti and red wine reduction, and a fromage blanc soufflé.

We've been all over LA, and this one seems to fly under the radar. We've had several great meals (we always get the tasting menu), but one did have one bad night where the food was off, the kitchen slow (maybe even a fight?), and didn't get out until midnight. But hey, that's a normal hour for dinner in the rest of the world!
