Bergamot Station

Fodor's Review:

Named after a stop on the Red Trolley line that once shuttled between Downtown and the Santa Monica Pier, Bergamot Station is now a depot for intriguing art. The industrial facades house more than a dozen art galleries, shops, a café, and a museum. The galleries cover many kinds of media: photography, jewelry, and paintings from somber to lurid. Inside one of the many cavernous, steel-beamed warehouses that make up this unique area, the Santa Monica Museum of Art (310/586-6488. www.smmoa.org) showcases exhibits of emerging artists. Open Tuesday-Friday 11-6, Saturday 11-8, with a $5 suggested donation. The museum also presents evening salons with artists, performers, and speakers.

  • Open: Galleries generally Tues.-Fri. 10-6, Sat. 11-5:30
