The sprawling Disney California Adventure, adjacent to Disneyland (their entrances face each other), pays tribute to the Golden State with eight theme areas that re-create vintage architectural styles and embrace several hit Pixar films via engaging attractions. In 2012, the front gate was revamped—visitors now enter through the art deco–style Buena Vista Street—and the 12-acre Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers, an immediate blockbuster hit (FASTPASS tickets
for the ride run out early most days) was added. Other popular attractions include World of Color, a nighttime water-effects show, and Toy Story Mania!, an interactive adventure ride hosted by Woody and Buzz Lightyear. At night, the park takes on neon-color hues as glowing signs light up Route 66 in Cars Land and Mickey's Fun Wheel, a mega-size Ferris wheel on the Paradise Pier. Unlike at Disneyland, cocktails, beer, and wine are available, and there's even an outdoor dance spot, the Mad T Party. Live nightly entertainment also features a 1930s jazz troupe that arrives in a vintage jalopy.

As a theme park, sorry, but it's just adequate. Yeah, everyone likes the Soaring over California, but that's about it. Its big fault is this: it has the sad misfortune of being right next to Disneyland, a place filled with fun, imagination and absolute magic - and it just can't compete. Especially when they charge you a whole separate admission At the main gate, what they should do is give access to Disneyland at Disneyland rates, with an *option*
for California Adventure for an additional 2 bucks or something. Or just include it as another land (Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, ... , Californialand). With their recent "Park Hopper" promo, I think they're finally realizing that it just isn't worth a separate admission. Not even close. Go to Disneyland instead.

There is no better amusement park ride ever than California Soarin. We have gone on it over and over. It is a simulated hang gliding ride dead in the center of a huge IMAX type screen flying you over famous places in California, complete with aroma, so when you fly over pine trees you actually smell pine. Tower of Terror drops you and bounces you in a huge elevator type ride 13 floors. This is the only place in a Disney park on the west coast
to take a roller coaster UPSIDE DOWN! The 3-D Bugs film is superb with lots of surprises. Food is better in this park. Water rides are better. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ride can entertain all day. The shows are fabulous. You cannot spend this amount of money for one day of entertainment anywhere else! It's a superb value. PLUS - so many people don't go to this park based on misinformation and it is not crowded. We love it.
