A lovingly restored 1912 fire station where everything—even the original brass sliding pole—has been preserved, Engine Co. No. 28 now rushes out solid, old-fashioned comfort food. The long bar is a popular hangout for downtown workers delaying their rush-hour commute. The kitchen does a fine job with chili, crab cakes, macaroni and cheese, and thick slabs of meat loaf. Specials include recipes inspired by firehouse cooking across the country.
