New York chef Tom Colicchio (a judge on TV's Top Chef) expands his burgeoning empire with this sleek Southern California outpost. Thanks to Century City's growing legions of agents and lawyers, Craft has emerged as a major film industry hangout. In its open, airy dining room, deals are brokered over lunches featuring seasonal, artisanal ingredients. In the evening, Craft is ideal for groups sharing plates from the signature à la carte menu that often includes Peruvian octopus with roasted pineapple, braised beef short ribs, and veal sweetbreads with plums. Boutique produce goes into a plethora of side dishes, and desserts may include butterscotch pudding with dates and hazelnuts or beignets with blackberry honey and chocolate. The endless menu can be frustrating, and some dishes miss the mark—but just as many sparkle.
