Fodor's Review:

Fresh-off-the-plane seafood gets flown directly from the Honolulu fish market to Heavenly Village's sexiest (and priciest) restaurant. The sleek, industrial-chic, white-tablecloth dining room is decked out with carved bamboo, sweeping banquettes, a burnt-orange color palette, and modern-glass sculpture, which perfectly complements contemporary Pacific Rim specialties such as the melt-from-the-bone baby back pork ribs with sesame-garlic soy sauce. There's also a good sushi menu with inventive rolls and sashimi combos.

Nice Dinner

This was a nice place to eat dinner in wintery Lake Tahoe, it had a nice warm atmosphere. The crab cake appetizer was nice, three crab cakes surrounding soft white strings of rice or something similar and topped with a corn relish and sauce. This appetizer was OK, crab cakes lacked moisture and crab. Entree of BBQ ribs was great and so were the wasabi mashed potatoes served with them. Service was excellent, overall a great dinner.

Three of us had lunch there. We ordered the teriyaki burger, ham and cheese sandwich and the shrimp roll ups. The toasted sweet bread used on the ham and cheese sandwich was enjoyed. The burger was tasty, but a bit dry. The shrimp wraps were lacking shrimp, but contained plenty of noodles mixed in with the few shrimp. Our waitress looked like a deer caught in headlights and seemed confused by most of our questions. We asked for coffees when we first sat down and were each brought a small cup of coffee (which were refilled from a coffee carafe)and then the bill came later and each very average tasting cup of coffee was $6.50!!!! When the manager was called to the table, we were told it was a special blend with Kona coffee and that it was not a mistake that 3 coffees were $19.50! He comped us 2 of the coffees and said that this happens all the time. I suggested that it might be prudent for them to train the waitresses to inform the customer of the price of a cup of coffee at the time of ordering and then unhappy customers may be avoided over this point. We did not order speciality coffees - just three cups of coffee as we sat down and began to look over the menu. Coffee wasn't even listed on the menu - just cold beverages were listed. Honestly, we are not over the top foodies, we just don't go on many vacations and want to get a good value for the money we spend. Kalani's was a disappointment from the decor to the food to the service. Even after the manager told the waitress to correct our bill, we were kept waiting without any communication from anyone about our new bill. We were one of three tables, so I know it was not because they were too busy.
