Gatekeeper's Cabin Museum

Fodor's Review:

The Gatekeeper's Cabin Museum preserves a little-known part of the region's history. Between 1910 and 1968 the gatekeeper who lived on this site was responsible for monitoring the level of the lake, using a hand-turned winch system to keep the water at the correct level. That winch system is still used today. The site is also home to a fantastic Native American basket museum that displays 800 baskets from 85 tribes, reason enough to visit.

  • Cost: $3
  • Open: May-mid-June and Sept., Wed.-Sun. 11-5; mid-June-Aug., daily 11-5; Oct. -Apr., weekends 11-3
