Shambala Preserve

Fodor's Review:

The closest you'll get to an African safari near Los Angeles is Shambala Preserve, an 80-acre wildlife preserve run by actress Tippi Hedren. Afternoon safaris, held once a month by advance reservation only, get you up to a foot away from 70 rescued wildcats and an African elephant.
