Dow Villa Motel and Hotel

¢-$$, Lone Pine

User Rating: **** 3.8

Fodor's Review:

John Wayne slept here, and you can, too. Built in 1923 to cater to the film industry, Dow Villa is in the center of Lone Pine. Some rooms have views of the mountains; both buildings are within walking distance of just about everything in town. There are in-room coffeemakers and whirlpool tubs, though some of the guest rooms share bathrooms. Pets are allowed only in smoking rooms. Many units have an Old West feel, and are decorated with antique furniture and pictures of John Wayne or Mt. Whitney. Pros: Historic property, nice views. Cons: Feels a bit dated.

Dow Villa brings comfort and a bit of history to weary travelers.

We always stay at the Dow Villa whenever we visit Lone Pine. Whether in the old part of the hotel or the newer section, the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly and ready with information, and the historic flavor only adds to the fun. "Lynn 1938" was etched into the wall in the bathroom of our room. Now, who could that be? A good meal is only steps away at the High Sierra Cafe. Beautiful views of Mt. McKinley while basking in the hottub. My favorite place!
