Throughout the desert and the eastern Sierra, dining is a fairly simple affair. Owens Valley is home to many mom-and-pop eateries, as well as a few fast-food chains. In the Mojave there are chain establishments in Ridgecrest, Victorville, and Barstow, as well as some ethnic eateries.

The restaurants in Death Valley range from coffee shops to upscale cafés. If you're looking for a special evening out in Death Valley, head to the Furnace Creek Dining Room, where you'll be spoiled with fine wines and gourmet fare such as rattlesnake empanadas or a juicy New York steak. It's also a great spot to start the day with a hearty gourmet breakfast.
