To be called Champagne, a wine must be made in the French region of Champagne or it's just sparkling wine. Whatever you call it, Korbel produces a tasty, reasonably priced bubbly as well as its own brandy, which is distilled on the premises. The wine tour, one of the best in Sonoma County, clearly explains the process of making sparkling wine and takes you through the winery's ivy-covered 19th-century buildings. If you've already had the process of wine making explained to you one too many times, a tour of the rose garden, where there are more than 250 varieties of roses, may be a welcome break. Garden tours are given Tuesday through Sunday, mid-April through mid-October; call the wine shop at 707/824-7316 for times.
