One of the best-known local wineries is Benziger Family Winery, on a sprawling estate in a bowl with 360-degree sun exposure. Benziger is noted for its merlot, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, and sauvignon blanc. The tram tours here are especially interesting (they're first come, first served). On a ride through the vineyards, guides explain the regional microclimates and geography and give you a glimpse of the extensive cave system. Tours depart several times a day, weather permitting. Reservations are needed for smaller tours that conclude with a seated tasting ($40). Arrive before lunch for the best shot at joining a tour—and bring a picnic, since the grounds here are lovely.
