Caymus Vineyards

Fodor's Review:

Caymus Vineyards is run by wine master Chuck Wagner, who started making wine on the property in 1972. His family, however, had been farming in the valley since 1906. Today their cabernet is the winery's claim to fame, a ripe, fairly high alcohol wine that's known for its consistently high quality. Though there's no tour and you have to reserve to taste, it's worth planning ahead to visit because it's unusual to be able to taste this kind of outstanding wine for free, and because the small, low-key seated tasting is a great opportunity to learn about the valley's cabernet artistry.

  • Cost: Tasting free
  • Open: Sales daily 10-4; tastings by appointment
