Fodor's Review:

On a knoll in the shelter of towering redwoods, this romantic inn has two distinct types of accommodations. Those in the original Belden House, where cozy chairs around a river-rock fireplace encourage loitering in the lounge area, are comfortable but modest in scale. Most of the 10 rooms in the newer buildings are larger and airier, decorated in sage green and terra-cotta tones. Readers rave about the accommodating service, soothing atmosphere, and the earthy Cal-Italian cuisine served in the restaurant ($$$) built to recall a French barn. In winter, up the romance factor by asking for a table near the fireplace.

I traveled with my wife to the Applewood Inn for her 30th birthday. I’d arranged with the staff to surprise my wife with some cookies that I’d sent as well as setup wine/glasses in the room for our arrival. In addition, I arranged to surprise her with two visits to your spa. I must say, everything worked flawlessly and my wife was absolutely delighted! The Inn is beautiful and very clean!! My wife and I both agree that we’ve never felt as comfortable and “at home” as we did at the Applewood Inn. We also really enjoyed meeting the Owners, who were always available and enjoyable to talk to. Also, the breakfasts are amazing. I HIGHLY recommend the Applewood Inn!

We really enjoyed our three-night stay at this charming inn. Our room was comfortable and clean, the staff was attentive and pleasant, and the food was excellent (we had breakfast everyday, dinner one evening at the restaurant, and ordered a picnic basket for lunch while touring the local wineries). Although the town of Guerneville is small and secluded, it's conveniently located to visiting the many wineries in the Russian River, Alexander and Dry Creek valleys. We'd definitely stay at the Applewood Inn again!

Surrounded by forest right by the Russian River. Beautiful grounds. Terrific breakfast. Quiet and off the beaten track, but still convenient to the Russian River wine road. Jim, Darrel, and Sandy are very friendly and helpful.

Thank you Applewood Inn for offering the perfect setting for our elopement AND for treating us like royalty during our stay. Booking our wedding online took a little bit of faith and we sure are glad that we trusted our gut/your website.

Our room was romantic, the peacefulness of the courtyard and pool made it seem like we were the only people at the resort and the meals in the restaurant were to die for (breakfast, dinner and picnics, we tried them all multiple times over our 5 day stay)! To top it all off Darryl, Jim and the rest of the staff at the Applewood were awesome.

We can’t wait to come back for our anniversary!

We stayed here a couple of years ago, and loved it. Secluded grounds, nice pool, lovely rooms and open areas, and unbelievably good food. Do splurge and eat in the restaurant not only for the included breakfast but for dinner!

The owners were selling to a French couple, so I am looking forward to go back and see how they could have improved on something so close to perfection.

I surprised my wife for our wedding anniversary and we both had the best time. The owners are very nice and personal. You feel that they really care for you and your comfort. All the employees as well were so kind. Gave us great advice on where to dine. There own restaurant on site was a great surprise as well. Wonderful food and excellent customer service. The grounds are well maintained and they have their own garden for all the fruits and vegetables they use at the restaurant. We are planning on another trip in the next two months and plan to bring some family along. We would not want to stay anywhere else.

We had reservations at another facility in the area, but when we arrived, late at night, we discovered that our cabin was truly rustic but the price was not. We didnt cancel our reservation we rejected it, and decided to return to San Francisco. Just a couple of miles south of Guerneville we saw a sign for the Applewood Inn and Restaurant. It was well after 10pm, and the office was closed, but we found the head chief closing up the restaurant. On the spur of the moment he booked us into two suites, each with a fireplace and living room, one with a Jacuzzi, and one with a two person shower, both for the same price as the "cabin" in the woods. They were wonderful suites, and we stayed up late to enjoy them. Breakfast the next day was outstanding. French toast made from croissants, with lots of strawberries and cream. After a long bath in the Jacuzzi, we hiked in the nearby Redwood forest. The Applewood saved our weekend. Thank you.
