Beltane Ranch Review

On a slope of the Mayacamas range a few miles from Glen Ellen, this 1892 ranch house, shaded by magnificent oak trees, contains charmingly old-fashioned rooms, each individually decorated with antiques and thick old-fashioned bedcovers. Rooms also have exterior entrances, and some open onto a wraparound balcony ideal for whiling away lazy afternoons. A bountiful breakfast, included in the price, incorporates produce from the gardens here, when it's in season, as well as eggs from their chickens. After breakfast, be sure to stroll around the expansive property, where trails lead you around the ranch's beautiful vineyards and gardens.

Grounds are beautiful but rooms are ratty. Grungy plastic shower stalls and mildew on the bathroom ceiling subtract from the ambience. The property has been in the family for 80 years, but the proprietress is not the type of person who should be running a B&B. The guests appear to be a burden for her.
